We did it again – filled all of the seats of our Executive Board and Board of Directors at our November 8th AGM. So off we go into our 65th year!
The AGM started with a brainstorming session where members had an opportunity to add suggestions for 2012. It was a fun, inter-active exercise where members met other members at tables set for four. There was lots of laughing and a wonderful camaraderie quickly filled the room.
Two new volunteers signed up. We’ve had several new people step forward these past few years, bringing with them great ideas and new energy. Our two new volunteers are ready to step into action with a new event this coming year!!
More than 80% of our long-time members who purchased our fundraising bulbs this spring had vegetable gardens this season. Wouldn’t it be great to get some of these experienced gardeners together with the beginner vegetable gardeners!
A volunteer has stepped forward to co-ordinate a Mackenzie Community School quad project. We’ve had an initial conversation but we can see the Horticultural Society kicking in some funds for some plants and emailing you, our members, when the time comes in the spring for some helping hands.
We’re very happy to be lining up with the Deep River Farmers’ Market group. We see the swapping of seeds, the sale of donated perennials, tools and books at a Horticultural Society table.
There’s more! Will we change our name? Who will we partner with this year? What’s in store for our 65th anniversary and how much of that money in the bank will we divvy out and for what? Our next meeting is Tuesday evening December 13, 7:00 pm at the library.
