A Vegetable Tour, a Lecture, a Show , a Market and a Reminder

Just a reminder that the Part III Vegetable Garden Workshop Tour takes place on Wednesday,veggraden August 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Bruce and Jean Bigham’s home, 54 Laurier, Deep River. Come see a large scale vegetable garden at harvest time and have your questions answered by a well experienced vegetable gardener.

The first part of our lecture/workshop series, Your Kids in Your Nature, presented by KidActive and your Horticultural Society will be Sunday, August 24th, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the W.B. Lewis Library at 55 Ridge Road in Deep River. More than just the lawn, swing set and basketball net, how does one see, plan, develop, and create a new child-friendly landscape? Also, join us on an adventure to see our community’s nature through a new lens while we try our hands at urban foraging. This is a hands-on, family-friendly event. So, bring the kids and expect to get dirty!

The Society’s Fall Flower and Vegetable Show is being held on Saturday, September 6 at the Town Hall with public viewing from 12:30 showto 3 p.m.

Exhibits may be placed Friday night September 5th from 5 – 6 p.m. and on Saturday morning between 8 – 11 a.m. Exhibitors are requested to pick up their entries between 3 – 3:30 p.m. The Show Schedule is attached to this email and is available from Show Co-ordinator Marion Thompson at 613-584-3003.

You are invited to come enjoy the sights and smells of a beautiful Fall harvest and see which plants grow well in Deep River and area. We are hoping to have a great display of beautiful flowers, mouth watering vegetables, herbs, vines and shrubdesigns and show how the exhibitors interpreted the design classes. Hope to see you at the Show. The theme of this year’s show is “Spectacular Fall.  

In addition, the Deep River Farmer’s Market will be open in the Town Hall’s parking lot starting at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please plan to attend these two great events. Remember, too, to register for the Wellspring Gardens tour and to submit your photographs for the photo contest soon.
